Scholle und Timm – Unterwegs mit Janko
"Scholle und Timm - Unterwegs mit Janko" can loosely be translated as "Scholle and Timm - Out and About with Janko". It is the first book of a trilogy book project, for children 8 years and up.
About the book: Scholle wakes up early one morning to a thundering Autumn storm outside her window. She would much rather stay in her warm and cozy bed but her younger brother Timm calls her from the kitchen. To her surprise, he found an injured puppy outside and has brought it in. Thankfully, their mother is a veterinarian, and the children quickly begin their rescue operation. Unbeknownst to them, they have just met the best playmate they could ever have wished for.
Scholle und Timm came to life because my kids asked me to write them a story. They wanted a book about something that really happened. But not necessarily. A story about how I grew up; but not necessarily. A story about kids like them - but also not necessarily. Most importantly, they wanted a book about animals, a farm and a vet practice. Scholle und Timm "Scholle and Timm" is precisely that: A story, which possibly happened, which is possibly about my childhood, and which possibly tells the story of my two children. But maybe not. In any case, the book is about two kids and a dog and many other animals that one can find on a farm. Scholle und Timm is both a gripping and a calm book - for independent reading as well as reading aloud. For dreaming and for laughing - whatever one feels like! Tears will likely not be shed, except perhaps for joy!
Every one of the fifteen chapters is accompanied by an illustration, placed at the beginning of the chapter.
The pictures are colourful linoleum-cuts that I printed on my Ettan printing press. In addition, I used watercolour techniques with some of the illustrations.
The artwork is intended to make my readers curious about what awaits Scholle and Timm in the following chapter.

Here are my most critical helpers and companions whom I owe a huge thank you: My two children, who were the first to listen to the manuscript. After that, my family in Germany had a go at it, particularly my father combed through it several times. A big thank you also to Juli Zöllner for editing the book. Only the dogs were sometimes bored at my endless sitting around and typing.
